Directives for the preparation of electronic files intended for prepress.
With the aim of being able to offer the best service at the best possible costs and in order to respect the delivery times of your proofs and jobs, we invite you to consult our guide of technical standards.
Sending your files to Datachrome:
- Electronic files can be provided to us on CDs or DVDs on Mac or Windows platforms. Please include a laser copy or a PDF of the documents to be processed. Include a folded dummy of the job to be produced.
- Your files can also be transmitted on our FTP server, (contact your Datachrome sales representative for the creation of your secured FTP account). When the transfer of your documents is completed, please contact your customer sales representative (CSR), or your sales representative or send an email to production@datachrome.com. To make sure that their integrity is preserved, the documents copied to our FTP server will have to be compressed using Stuffit compression utility by using the option Stuff and Binhex on Mac or Zip on Windows.
Page layout application standards:
- Work such as corporate booklets, magazines, and annual reports comprising multiple pages will have to be submitted using QuarkXPress, version 6.5 or Adobe InDesign, version CS2. Documents such as posters, folders, and labels can also be made with these same applications but also on Adobe Illustrator, version CS2.
- Please advise your customer sales representative (CSR) or your Datachrome sales representative if you use different applications or different versions than those mentioned above.
- We accept documents produced on Mac and Windows operating systems.
QuarkXPress, version 6.5 and InDesign, version CS2:
- The size of your document must be in conformity with the provided estimate.
- Include a 1/8-inch bleed margin.
- Include all the fonts (including fonts used in linked files), illustrations and images used in your documents. In order to ensure that we have in hand all the elements necessary for the processing of your files, we suggest the use of the integrated tool Collect for output, (Quark) - Package (InDesign). We also recommend the preflighting software Markzware Flightcheck. Only provide the files needed for the production of your project. Organize your files in folders (ex.: Fonts, Scans).
- The matrix images imported in your QuarkXPress documents must have a minimal resolution of 300 dpi at the final size. - Make sure that the colours are well defined. Under the menu edit colour, uncheck the option spot for the colours which must be reproduced in process mode.
- Please build your documents in single pages.
- Identify the pages with a number in the margin of the document if your publication does not comprise folios.
- Do not use text attributes unless the font is available on your workstation.
- Do not to use GIF and pict file formats. Do not copy/paste to import your images. Your imported documents will be in CMYK mode, not RGB.
- In order to facilitate the processing of your Quark files, limit the number of pages of your documents rather than segmenting your publications in several documents.
- Trapping is performed by Datachrome’s prepress technicians.
* Extra fees and delays may be incurred should the above specifications not be followed. Should you require additionnal information, please contact your Datachrome sales representative.
